04 / Southern Changes Hybrid

You handle the boxes. We spray the doors.

Your effort. Our spray finish.

Illustrative concept, not a completed customer project.

Who it fits

Is this your
kind of change?

Your cabinets are suitable to keep and you are comfortable taking responsibility for box preparation and painting, plus the agreed door removal and transport.

What stays. What changes.

Keep suitable boxes and doors. You remove and bring the doors to our shop after approval. We prepare the doors and apply a sprayed-on coating in a controlled environment while you prepare and paint the boxes.

Why choose it?

Our most economical approach for suitable cabinets when you handle box preparation and painting. Your labor reduces the work you hire out, while the doors receive our professional shop-applied spray finish.

Introducing Hybrid, not a ready-to-ship kit.

Our compatible materials kit, written guidance and how-to video are being developed. Ask about suitability now. Availability, support, coating choices, responsibilities and price must be confirmed before a project is accepted. Drawer fronts, hardware and repairs are confirmed separately.

A clear process

From first look
to a defined plan.

  1. 01

Check suitability first: share photos, condition and coating history. Do not begin sanding or stripping before review.

  2. 02

Agree on labels, safe packing, transport, repairs, materials, color and responsibilities. You bring the approved doors to our shop.

  3. 03

We prepare and spray the doors. You prepare and paint the boxes with the agreed compatible coating system and guidance.

  4. 04

Collect the doors after the agreed handling time. Pickup, cure time and reinstallation responsibilities are confirmed in writing.

The tradeoffs to understand

Your time, preparation and application affect the result. Hand-painted boxes and sprayed doors can differ in texture. Final cost depends on condition and scope; this is not a universal lowest-price guarantee.

No surprises in the scope

Materials, preparation, repairs, protection, disposal and installation responsibilities are agreed in writing. Related structural, plumbing, electrical and countertop work is a separate scope decision unless expressly included.

Older or unknown coatings need review before disturbance. Cleaning alone does not guarantee adhesion. We do not refinish or repaint lead-positive cabinets. Read our cabinet lead policy.

Before you decide

Five questions.
Straight answers.

Is Hybrid less disruptive than full-service refinishing?

Not automatically. Similar preparation still needs doing, but you take on more of it. The savings come from work you handle yourself, not from skipping the work.

What do I do, and what does Southern Changes do?

You prepare and paint the boxes. We prepare and spray the approved doors in our shop. Removal, labeling, packing, transport and reinstallation responsibilities are agreed before starting.

How much of my own time should I plan for?

Enough to complete the preparation, painting and agreed handling properly. Your available time and experience affect how long the kitchen is disrupted. We will not promise this is a quick weekend project.

What happens if the boxes and doors do not look exactly alike?

Hand-painted boxes and sprayed doors can have different textures. Compatible materials and careful preparation matter. We discuss the expected result before you commit.

Can I buy a kit and start now?

The kit and instruction video are still being developed. Confirm availability, guidance and suitability first. Do not start sanding or stripping before review; we do not refinish or repaint lead-positive cabinets.

Compared with a full kitchen gut

Cabinet replacement does not automatically mean a full kitchen gut. A full gut is a broader scope that can involve countertops, flooring, walls, utilities and other trades. Keeping suitable cabinets can limit demolition, but preparation, dust control, protection and kitchen access still need a plan. Your written scope should explain what stays, what comes out and what you can use while the work is underway.

Possible project budgets

$1,800–$3,000 for Hybrid shop work.

Illustrative shop-work allowance for the agreed doors and drawer fronts. Your cabinet-box finishing supplies and your own unpaid labor are additional. Removal, labeling, packing, transport and reinstallation responsibilities must be confirmed in the written scope. Confirm current guidance and availability before starting; this is not a kit or video package promise.

The example: a compact 10-by-10-foot kitchen with roughly 14 doors and 6 drawer fronts, no island, keeping the layout. That cabinet count is our example, not a universal 10-by-10 standard.

How does that compare with a full remodel?

A possible full-kitchen remodel budget for this example is $30,000–$50,000+, allowing for new cabinets, counters, standard appliances, flooring, backsplash and ordinary related trade work. It is a much broader project, with more coordination and potentially more time without normal kitchen access. Cabinet replacement alone does not automatically mean a full gut.

These are proposed planning allowances, not local statistical averages or guaranteed quotes. Cabinet quantities, materials, finish condition, repairs and site access affect the price. Tax, shipping, unusual repairs and exactly what is included must be confirmed in the written quote. Photos start the conversation; measurements, condition and scope determine your project price.

Start simple

A few photos.
A useful conversation.

Start with your town, kitchen goals and a few overall and close-up photos. Talk to Dani first or email photos directly. Carl can review them with you by phone and discuss a preliminary price range where the information allows. Site conditions, measurements and a written scope must be confirmed before a final quote. No instant price or booked date is promised.

Only share what is relevant to the project. Keep people, personal documents and other private details out of photos.
